Superseded by #1725 and closed. Do not merge this branch.
The focused context-listener behaviour and regression coverage that remains relevant is included in #1725. This branch also restores the earlier multi-class coordinator and lifecycle implementation, listener supplier and ownership management, retry behaviour, and callback-scoped writer assumptions. Those behaviours were deliberately removed or replaced by the simpler implementation in #1725.
Any additional test worth retaining should be rewritten against the final #1725 API and implementation rather than reviving this branch.
