The Lotus application is a companion app that goes collectively with the Lotus physical device. The application prompts users to have meaningful conversations with their elderly through an asynchronous manner.
This project is a high fidelity prototype of the Lotus app. Currently, the frontend section of the application has been completed however the backend is not implemented due to time constraint. The application was build with the React Native framework and is currently design specifically for Andriod users.
The following tutorial section will expand more on the installation process of the tools that was used in this project. General overview tutorial to run the application can be found on the Instruction section under our A3 documentation.
Expo Go Installation
In order to install Expo Go, user will need Node.js, git and NPM. Offi

Open terminal and type the following command
npm install --global expo-cli -
Once user hits enter, it will prompt you to input your password in. The installation will take some time however and warnings will be shown however these warnings will not be a problem.

Once the installation is completed Expo Go is installed in your computer.
Android Studio Installation
- Download Android Studio from the following link.
- Open the DMG file then drag and drop Android Studio into the App folder.
- Once it has been installed click on "More Actions" and select the "SDK Manager" options from the dropdown menu.
- Make sure to select "Android 11.0" under SDK platforms and choose "Apply" to download.
- Next is to choose "SDK Tools" on the top bar of the same page.
- Install "Android Emulator", "Android SDK Platform-Tools" and "Android SDK Tools" by selecting them then clicking the "Apply" button.
- Close the following page and go back to the initial window of Android Studio. Choose the "More Actions" option and select "AVD Manager".
- Choose the "Create Virtual Device" option.
- Under the "Phone" category, select Pixel 5 or any devices that are lower than the size 1080 x 2340 with 440 dpi and more than the size 1080 x 1920 420 dpi. Then select the "Next" button.
- Select the "Q" option inside the table and then click the "Download" link. Afterwards click the "next" button.
- In the next page, make sure that the "Portrait" option is selected and then click the "Finish" button.
- Once the emulator is installed, click the "Play" button to run the emulator.
