the response is always that the only available quality is "medium". However I know from using other downloaders that these high quality files do exist. Sometimes the difference in file size is 10x.
How do I obtain the source for the actual original quality file?
This library simulates the Pixiv mobile app’s API requests, so it’s possible that the current mobile API version no longer provides the original ugoira files either. There may be a newer API endpoint available, but so far nobody has intercepted and documented it. PRs are very welcome if anyone manages to find it.
As a temporary workaround, I observed through intercepted webpage AJAX requests that the original version URL can be obtained simply by replacing 600x600 with 1920x1080 in the ZIP file URL returned by the API response.
PS: I noticed you're using the async methods, which suggests you may actually be using Mikubill/pixivpy-async rather than this original library.
