*Currently there are no differences between packages and modules in `osbuild-composer`. Both are treated like an rpm package dependency.*
*`packages` and `modules` are both treated as RPM package dependencies.* For DNF modularity streams, use [`enabled_modules`](#enabled-modules) instead — that field is distinct from the `modules` package list.

> When using virtual `provides` as the package name the version glob should be `*`. And be aware that you will be unable to `freeze` the blueprint. This is because the `provides` will expand into multiple packages with their own names and versions.

### Enabled modules (modularity) 🔵 🟤 {#enabled-modules}

Enable DNF modularity streams so packages from those streams can be installed. This is **not** the same as the `modules` package list under [Packages](#packages).

Each entry has:

- `name` — **required** module name (for example `nodejs`)
- `stream` — **required** stream to enable (for example `18`)

Also list any packages you need from the stream under [`packages`](#packages).

<Tabs values={tabValues} >

Support depends on the distribution and image type. Check the [image description](./09-image-descriptions/index.md) `supported_options` list for `enabled_modules`. Modularity availability also depends on the host’s package manager (see [Depsolving](./10-depsolving.md)).

### Firstboot 🔵 {#firstboot}

_See the [Firstboot](./08-firstboot.md) guide for details, Satellite/AAP examples, and a manual files+services fallback._

Run scripts once on the image’s first boot via `[customizations.firstboot]`. Scripts run in order through systemd; by default a failure stops later scripts unless `ignore_failure` is set.

Each entry in `scripts` requires a `type`:

| `type` | Purpose | Required fields |
|--------|---------|-----------------|
| `custom` | Arbitrary script | `contents` |
| `satellite` | Satellite registration command | `command` |
| `aap` | Ansible Automation Platform callback | `job_template_url`, `host_config_key` |

Common optional fields: `name`, `ignore_failure`, `after`, `before` (systemd unit ordering). Satellite and AAP entries may also set `cacerts` (PEM strings) enrolled before the script runs.

Do not confuse this with [`customizations.ignition.firstboot`](#ignition), which configures Ignition provisioning.
