If asterisk doesn't run (because userapps are not enabled in berofix) there rise a lot of PHP errors, because the asterisk Manager-Interface can't be accesssed.
The OpenPBX should better print out a proper error message like:
Asterisk is not running, because Apps are not enabled in the Gateway. Make sure to enabled Apps under Preferences->Miscalleneaous in the Gateway GUI.
