Proposed changes (including videos or screenshots)

Split out of #35305 (NatsBroker). The bug doesn't depend on NATS.

When a livechat transcript is generated, OmnichannelTranscript.uploadFiles uploads the rendered PDF to two rooms and hands the same Readable to both Upload.uploadFileFromStream calls. A stream is consumed once. Two consumers that attach in the same tick both get every chunk, but a consumer that attaches one I/O turn later only gets what is left, which can be nothing:

second consumer attaches first gets second gets
same tick                  51200        51200
after 1 microtask          51200        51200
after setImmediate         51200        0

omnichannel-transcript runs as its own service and Upload lives in the monolith, so each upload is a remote call. Nothing guarantees both start reading in the same tick.

The fix pipes the render into one PassThrough per upload, attached before anything awaits, so every upload reads its own full copy. The PDF is still streamed, not buffered. A render failure is forwarded to every copy, so the uploads fail instead of hanging.

Issue(s)

Split from #35305.

Steps to test or reproduce

yarn workspace @rocket.chat/omnichannel-services test. Two new specs in OmnichannelTranscript.spec.ts:

  • the whole transcript reaches every room, even when one upload starts reading late. This fails against the current code: the second room gets 0 bytes.
  • a failed render fails every upload. This fails (hangs) if the error forwarding is removed.

Further comments

I haven't reproduced this against a running microservices stack. The spec simulates the late reader.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed an issue where livechat transcript PDFs sent to multiple rooms could arrive empty or truncated. Uploads now receive the complete transcript, and failures during PDF rendering are reported instead of leaving uploads waiting.

`uploadFiles` handed the same stream to each room's upload. A stream is
consumed once, so whether the second upload got the whole pdf depended on
timing: both reads attaching in the same tick tee it, but an upload that
starts reading an I/O turn later - which a call to the Upload service in
another process can - gets whatever is left, down to nothing.

Pipe the render into one PassThrough per upload, attached before anything
awaits, and forward a render failure to every copy so the uploads fail
instead of waiting for bytes that are never coming.

Walkthrough

OmnichannelTranscript.uploadFiles now fans the rendered PDF stream out to a separate stream for each room. Tests cover delayed reads and render errors. A patch changeset records the fix.

uploadFiles pipes the render stream into a separate PassThrough for each room and destroys the copies if the source errors. Tests check that delayed uploads receive the full transcript and that render errors reject the upload. The changeset declares a patch release.

The fix correctly gives each room a full transcript PDF. However, if one room's upload fails partway, such as on a temporary-file write error, the other room's upload can hang and keep the PDF render open. Abort all copies when any upload fails before merging.

Abort sibling uploads when one upload rejects.

UploadService.uploadFileFromStream can reject on a temporary-file write error without destroying its streamParam. With the new PassThrough fan-out, that leaves the copy attached to stream; after its buffer fills, source backpressure can keep the other upload pending. The storage insert rejection occurs after finish, so the early-failure case is the write-stream error path.

🐛 Suggested fix
 		stream.on('error', (err) => copies.forEach((copy) => copy.destroy(err)));

+		const abortAll = (err: unknown) => {
+			const error = err instanceof Error ? err : new Error(String(err));
+			copies.forEach((copy) => copy.destroy(error));
+			stream.destroy(error);
+		};
+
 		return Promise.all(
-			roomIds.map((roomId, index) => {
-				return uploadService.uploadFileFromStream({
+			roomIds.map(async (roomId, index) => {
+				try {
+					return await uploadService.uploadFileFromStream({
 					streamParam: copies[index],

 						...

+					});
+				} catch (err) {
