if (nx, ny) not in pixels:with a set membership checkif (nx, ny) not in seen:. A parallelseenset is populated alongsidepixelsto keep track of added coordinates.🎯 Why: List membership checks are O(N), which becomes a bottleneck in nested loops. Checking membership against a
setoperates in O(1) time. We keep appending to thepixelslist to ensure the return order remains exactly identical.📊 Measured Improvement: A synthetic benchmark testing the exact code block logic running 10000 times with a fiber length of 50 showed list check taking ~6.38 seconds and set check taking ~1.10 seconds, representing an 82.78% improvement in performance while producing exactly identical output coordinates.
