A community continuation of Apollo for Reddit. This org hosts the iOS tweak that keeps the app running and the notifications backend that goes with it.

Apollo for Reddit shut down on June 30, 2023, after Reddit's API pricing changes made it untenable to operate. Around the shutdown, a few community tweaks let sideloaded copies of the app keep working with personal API keys. In late 2023, @JeffreyCA built on them as Apollo-ImprovedCustomApi and kept adding fixes and features the original app never shipped.
In May 2026 the project outgrew a single maintainer, so it moved to this org and was renamed Apollo-Reborn (announcement).
Apollo-Reborn is maintained by @icpryde, @IllIIllIllIllII, @jordanearle, @DeltAndy123, @nickclyde, and @JeffreyCA.
Apollo-Reborn (the iOS tweak)
It lets sideloaded Apollo builds sign in with your own Reddit API key, or with no key at all, and unlocks every Ultra feature. Highlights from recent releases:
- Signing in. An experimental API-key-free mode, a separate API key per account, and a redesigned account switcher.
- Browsing. Gallery View for photo and video feeds, Floating Post Tabs to keep several posts open, Picture in Picture, inline media previews, and rich link cards.
- Newer Reddit features. Polls, modern Chat and Mod Mail, live interactive posts, live comment threads, Badge Book, and showing deleted comments.
- Customization. A Theme Manager with shareable themes, redesigned profile and subreddit headers, reorderable action menus, and many new Liquid Glass app icons for iOS 26.
- Extras. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, AI summaries, in-place translation, and automatic settings backups.
See the repo README for build instructions and the full feature list, and the releases page for what changed in each version.
The self-hostable notifications backend, forked and reworked from @christianselig's archived christianselig/apollo-backend. It's a Go service that sends push notifications, checks your Reddit inbox, and runs subreddit and user watchers for sideloaded Apollo builds.
Point Settings → Custom API → Notification Backend in the tweak at your deployment to get notifications and watchers back. Each deployment serves one sideloaded Apollo build, so it suits personal use or a small group of friends running the same build.
It can deliver notifications two ways:
- Native APNs supports everything, including Live Activities. It needs a paid Apple Developer account, a custom bundle ID (Reddit blocks the original
com.christianselig.Apollo), and an explicit App ID with Push Notifications enabled. - Bark is free and works on free Apple ID sideloads. It relays notifications through the Bark app. Live Activities aren't supported.
See the repo README for step-by-step guides for each path, configuration, and changes from upstream.
- @christianselig, for building Apollo for Reddit and open-sourcing the original backend.
- @EthanArbuckle (Apollo-CustomApiCredentials), @ryannair05 (ApolloAPI), and @ichitaso (ApolloPatcher), for the original tweaks the project grew from.
- @JeffreyCA, for creating Apollo-ImprovedCustomApi, building it up as its solo maintainer for over two years, and opening it up to a team of maintainers to carry it forward.
- Every tweak contributor and backend contributor whose work this org builds on.
