The [OpenAI Agents SDK](https://openai.github.io/openai-agents-python/) is OpenAI's framework for building agents. The quickest way to give an agent a KERNEL browser is to connect it to the [KERNEL MCP server](/reference/mcp-server), which exposes browser creation, Playwright execution, screenshots, and computer controls as tools.
11+
12+
## Install
13+
14+
```bash
15+
pip install openai-agents
16+
```
17+
18+
Set `OPENAI_API_KEY` and `KERNEL_API_KEY` in your environment.
19+
20+
## Connect an agent to KERNEL
21+
22+
```python Python
23+
import asyncio
24+
import os
25+
26+
from agents import Agent, Runner
27+
from agents.mcp import MCPServerStreamableHttp
28+
29+
30+
async def main():
31+
async with MCPServerStreamableHttp(
32+
name="kernel",
33+
params={
34+
"url": "https://mcp.onkernel.com/mcp",
35+
"headers": {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['KERNEL_API_KEY']}"},
36+
},
37+
) as kernel:
38+
agent = Agent(
39+
name="Browser agent",
40+
instructions="Use the KERNEL tools to create a browser, do the task, then delete the browser.",
41+
mcp_servers=[kernel],
42+
)
43+
result = await Runner.run(agent, "Go to news.ycombinator.com and list the top 5 story titles.")
44+
print(result.final_output)
45+
46+
47+
asyncio.run(main())
48+
```
49+
50+
The MCP server accepts your KERNEL API key as a bearer token. See [MCP authentication](/reference/mcp-server/authentication).

[Codex](https://developers.openai.com/codex) is OpenAI's coding agent. You can give it KERNEL know-how with the KERNEL plugin, and KERNEL browsers as tools with the KERNEL MCP server. Use either or both.
11+
12+
## Install the KERNEL plugin
13+
14+
The plugin adds [Agent Skills](/skills/overview) for the KERNEL CLI and SDKs, so Codex knows how to create and drive browsers.
15+
16+
```bash
17+
codex plugin marketplace add kernel/skills
18+
codex plugin add kernel-cli@kernel
19+
codex plugin add kernel-sdks@kernel
20+
```
21+
22+
You can also find the KERNEL plugins under **Plugins** in the ChatGPT desktop app after adding the marketplace.
23+
24+
## Connect the MCP server
25+
26+
The [KERNEL MCP server](/reference/mcp-server) gives Codex tools to create browsers, run Playwright code, take screenshots, and more.
27+
28+
```bash
29+
codex mcp add kernel --url https://mcp.onkernel.com/mcp
30+
codex mcp login kernel
31+
```
32+
33+
`codex mcp login` opens your browser so you can authorize access to your KERNEL account. To use an API key instead, see [MCP authentication](/reference/mcp-server/authentication).
34+
35+
Start a Codex session and run `/mcp` to confirm the KERNEL tools are available.
