Description

@anyagoodhand
  • Describe the goal of the project.
    The goal of this project is to answer the general research question “What is Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) and how has it changed over the years across countries?” using the big-mac index which tells you how many Big-macs can be bought with the same amount of money in different places around the globe.

  • Describe the data used or collected.
    The data set used is from "The Economist" created in 1986 from areas worldwide. The Big-mac prices are from McDonalds, exchange rates are from Thomson Reuters, and GDP/capita data are from the IMF World Economic Outlook reports.

  • Describe how the research question will be answered, e.g. what approaches / methods will be used.
    This group aims to use a number of variables from the data set including calculated PPP and GDP_dollar. They briefly explain how they will use data visualisations to aid them when explaining the relationships between GDP changes from country to country. They will calculate exchange rates and other methods (median, IQR, etc)

  • Is there anything that is unclear from the proposal?
    What sub-questions will be addressed within the project (if any). Whether they have any other focuses within the project, unsure whether there will be enough to say about just this.

  • Provide constructive feedback on how the team might be able to improve their project.
    Maybe see how other variables may interact, and whether these interactions mean anything in regard to PPP. For example, do different currencies indicate what the PPP will be.

  • What aspect of this project are you most interested in and would like to see highlighted in the presentation.
    I am most interested in how volatile PPP is and whether it does change over time or whether it stays relatively constant.

  • Provide constructive feedback on any issues with file and/or code organisation.
    Very clearly laid out proposal drawing on exploratory analysis which is good. Maybe do some more preliminary analysis and a few more plots based on other questions that you're planning to answer. I think at the moment you are not exploring enough questions. It is a very interesting data set with lots to uncover.
