GitHub signin should not be needed for local LLM's.

Proposed solution

We’re planning to integrate GitHub Copilot CLI into one of our products. The only blocker we’ve encountered is the mandatory GitHub sign-in requirement. This restriction applies even when using self-hosted models (such as Ollama), which limits flexibility for our use case. Could you please consider removing or relaxing this requirement to enable broader adoption and integration scenarios?

This has been addressed as of v1.0.8. When COPILOT_PROVIDER_BASE_URL is set to a local model endpoint (e.g., Ollama), GitHub sign-in is not required — authentication is automatically skipped when a custom provider is configured. If you believe this isn’t resolved, please feel free to reopen this issue.
