Research into VMs and how to get them to communicate

• learned a bit more about VMs and virtualization and figuring out how to tackle which kind of VMs we should use as their appear to be different kinds
• Found an open source project that is a telnet honeypot so need to look into that more and see if it can be applied

• more research on crowlie
• ran it locally and tested and say how it recorded commands used by another ssh if they enter a specific port
• can probably set this up to listen to specific ports on the network of our devices so that if there are commands that we haven't automated or dont know about it can flag it
• did some looking into dockerization and how that could be a factor in the project

Read up and did research on the OSI model as I was not familiar with it and want to improve my networking understanding this model is important for networking and how information is received and sent and the way it is handled. Wrote a google doc on what I learned from it and also branch out on certain terms I did not understand.

Decided that the best approach would be to use a hypervisor 1 on the server and one that seems to be recommended is Proxmox although windows has a good one but can cost money while the proxmox one can get most of its use without paying. On top of the Proxmox we install the VMs. The Vms would be of different types; surveillance, database, maybe a fake user or fake person. Mostly looked into hypervisors, which one we should use, and virtualization.

Helped Charlie set up the servers in the rack as well as go through the idea of installing a Type 1 hypervisor and then setting up the VMs on top of that. She also agreed that Proxmox would be a good idea due to its interactive remote ui and control enabling use to work on the hypervisor and vms from home and not have to always be by the server.

Looked more into Proxmox with Ruhi. Might need to make a specific email for the Proxmox hypervisor when setting it up so it can receive the logs and information. It may also be good due to if we want to try and log suspicious activity we can send it to that email as well. Need to buy a usb flash drive so that we can install proxmox onto it and then transfer it onto the server.

downloaded proxmox on usb flash drive and tried installing it on servers. had some trouble getting the usb option on bootup but after transfering info onto usb through rufus it worked. New issue now is that there is zero disk storage on all servers so need to get some SSDs or something so that we can put proxmox on the servers and use them. The Ram is still good sitting at a nice 738GB
